R.E.P.O. Guns: A Guide to Taking Down the Monsters

By Bullish Coder

Spend your tax money on R.E.P.O. guns and get back out there—these monsters don’t know who they’re messing with. This guide will arm you with everything you need to survive the horrors of R.E.P.O., detailing how to acquire these powerful firearms and master their use. While throwables and melee weapons may lead to friendly fire in frantic moments, the reliable R.E.P.O. firearms offer a high-risk, high-reward investment that can really turn the tide of battle.

Available Firearms

The Service Station offers three types of firearms. Beware, however, that they spawn only rarely as the store’s stock rotates on every visit. If luck (and deep pockets) are on your side, you might see one—or even all—of these weapons:

  • Tranq Gun: $17,000 – Temporarily puts monsters to sleep. It fires sedative darts that immobilize enemies for about 15 seconds, allowing you and your team time to reposition or escape. Note that it cannot kill a monster and appears less effective on formidable foes like the Apex Predator.
  • Gun: $46,000 – A standard firearm that, when used with proper aim and supporting equipment (like a Recharge Drone and Energy Crystals at the Charging Station), can neutralize threats permanently. Its recoil requires deliberate, precise shots.
  • Shotgun: $92,000 – Built for hard-hitting action, though its third shot is known for unpredictable recoil. With every shot counting, precision is key.
Item Average Cost Description
Tranq Gun $17,000 Temporarily puts monsters to sleep.
Gun $46,000 A standard firearm that needs careful aiming to overcome its recoil.
Shotgun $92,000 Delivers devastating power, but the third shot swings with uncontrollable recoil.

Firearms can be purchased at the Service Station, but keep in mind that their appearance is sporadic. The stock rotates every time you visit, so there’s a chance you might not see a firearm in a given playthrough. If you and your team fail to exfiltrate with one of these weapons or end up in the Disposal Area, you’ll need to earn enough money to buy another.

Before using any firearm, equip it to one of your inventory slots. Once active, fire using the “E” key. These weapons exhibit significant knockback effects and unpredictable recoil, so follow these best practices:

  • Take aim: Line up your shot carefully instead of relying on spraying and praying. A brief pause (up to one second) between shots lets the gun and target realign for improved accuracy.
  • Manage your ammunition: Each item has a charge bar functioning as its magazine. Replenish ammunition with a Recharge Drone or at the Charging Station using Energy Crystals. Strategic resource management is critical, as these weapons will eventually run dry.

Tranq Gun: Detailed Analysis

The Tranq Gun is a unique weapon designed to temporarily incapacitate enemies rather than kill them outright. It fires sedative darts that render monsters immobile for roughly 15 seconds—ideal for creating openings during exfiltration or in high-pressure situations.

However, there are some challenges to note:

  • Limited capacity: The Tranq Gun holds only three darts, so precise shots are essential.
  • Not effective on all monsters: While it can stun most foes, certain monsters (like the Apex Predator) remain unfazed, and any attempt to use the Tranq Gun against them may result in a fatal counterattack.
  • Investment piece: At $17,000, it’s a significant purchase. Be sure to consistently maintain additional resources like Recharge Drones and Energy Crystals to keep it operational.

By understanding these nuances and integrating the Tranq Gun into a broader tactical strategy, you can effectively manage enemy waves and improve your chance at survival in the brutal world of R.E.P.O..
